Mark C. Rittenhouse, MD, FACS

Dr. Rittenhouse is a well-respected surgeon who has practiced in San Antonio for nearly 40 years. He operates exclusively in the South Texas Medical Center and primarily in the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital. He is one of several surgeons affiliated with the START Center for Cancer Care.
During his long career, Dr. Rittenhouse has focused primarily on the surgical care of patients with cancer of the breast, gastrointestinal tract, liver, skin, endocrine system, and soft tissues. He has established a reputation for doing complex procedures, often in cooperation with other surgical colleagues. He also is comfortable performing more emergent procedures – such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, bowel obstructions, and hernias.
Dr. Rittenhouse graduated from Oklahoma State University with highest honors. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School. He trained in surgery at the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio. He did a surgical oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. He then served in the Air Force for two years and received an honorable discharge.
Dr. Rittenhouse is proud to be a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology and the Texas Surgical Society. He was recently honored by SA Magazine as one of the city’s top surgeons.
Dr. Rittenhouse is married, a father, and grandfather. He is an active member of First Presbyterian Church, the San Antonio Country Club, and the Argyle Club.
