Jay Messer, MD

Dr. Jay Messer is a Radiation Oncologist who takes care of patients at the START Center. He completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, with integrated rotations at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Houston Methodist Hospital. Dr. Messer was elected as Chief Resident in his final year. Prior to residency, he received his medical degree with AOA honors from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he also completed his internship in Internal Medicine. Dr. Messer graduated Summa Cum Laude in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

 

Dr. Messer’s primary passion is connecting with patients and serving as a guide during a difficult time in their lives. His areas of interest include advanced radiation techniques such as IMRT, SBRT, and SRS to precisely deliver radiation while minimizing side effects. He has published multiple first author publications in prestigious research journals and has given oral presentations at major conferences. In his free time, Dr. Messer enjoys exploring the Texas Hill Country with his son and his wife, Alison, who is a Dermatologist in San Antonio. He is a member of the American Board of Radiology and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.
